Wait, this is the plot of the Lucky Luke album “Jesse James”.
No, I don’t believe Mr. Allison, an American, stole from a French comic written 50 years ago by René Goscinny. Different people can, and often have, the same idea.
I’m just pointing out there’s a wealth of old funny stuff out there, if you don’t mind digging through old archives of dead languages.
I remember watching some Lucky Luke cartoons as a youngster.
They were in Welsh, on the Welsh channel, and I didn’t know any Welsh.
Needless to say, I didn’t watch many for very long.
They translated Lucky Luke to Welsh, but not English?
Yeah, if you couldn’t understand it, there was no point watching it. As with all everything else Goscinny wrote, it’s 90% about the plot.
The cartoon itself isn’t very good to begin with, because it was an adaptation of the comics, and we all know the “writers” that adapt the source material to TV always have to personally “Improve” it.
I found a digital trove of the comics somewhere in the high seas, but it’s in Spanish.
Spanish readers might want to plunder it, it’s really very good.
Yeah. I lived in a town near the Welsh border, so I was able to pick up S4C, the Welsh language version of the UK’s Channel 4. Mostly it was time-shifted English language programmes or original Welsh language content, but occasionally there were a few Welsh dubbed gems. And even fewer of those were ones that had been broadcast on the English language channels in English.
Oh, I just remembered some of Goscinny’s work that you might be more familiar with: Astérix.
Same type of subtle, yet hard-hitting jokes, at least once in every page. Only in Western format.
I have no idea how much Goscinny actually wrote, but of the works I know of him, he was always consistently excellent.

Oh, yes. Asterix reached the English-speaking channels. Various animated (and at least one live-action) films over the years.
In the languages section of the school library, there were many Asterix (and Tintin, though he was by “RG”) books in various languages.
You want the books, though.
The cartoons and films are really, really bad.
I hear the Astérix and the Britons (Bretons?) is especially popular over there.

In reality though, most bandits only give some proportions of their loot to the poor, at least to shut them up.
Otherwise, he or she might have other things besides their wealth.
In reality, most bandits robbed from the poor as well, but they had PR agencies spin it so that the focus was on their attacking ofthe corrupt establishment.
Nothing changes. Sadly.
That is why I said “other things” like food, and probably girls (married or unmarried) extorted from peasants.
You gotta half the loot between them! Oh, wait, no, that’s communism… do carry on then!
This reminds me of the Dennis Moore Monty Python skit. “This redistribution of wealth is trickier than I thought…” But, enough about Lupins…

so, toonhole is just randomizing its archive now eh?
Not fully, we’re still chronological comic display. But we plan on ‘stickying’ an occasional comic at the top to discover a few old favorites, or keep a big news post or comic near the top of attention 3 posts (like an animated film or a big story based multi-page comic). Mostly we plan on regular old chronological display though.
