Well, technically when you study the history of capitalism, it’s get divided in 4 to 6 periods. The first one usually being the “slave” one based on how Romans used slave workers from the places they conquer, some authors put this period in the same box of the “feudal system” but when you get to compare both of them, the differences are quite big. People should learn more history, hating communist or another way of thinking economics without never reading what they are it’s just plain stupid, also remember, you don’t actually have to believe in an ideology to practice it . it’s like the people who say or thing they are not facists but when you analize they way or thinking or the state where they live, they actually are, this happens a lot in United States, Russia, Israel (kinda ironic) even in third developed country like Argentina, people talk about democracy, but it’s seems the only “part” of democracy they know is the vote, not the equality of right (pfff bullshit, if you have money in Argentina you practically can get away from murder in two years).
Some parts of socialism are already used in democracies & republics, like welfare, retirement, etc.
In most cases, you are guaranteed some form of income if you can’t find/are unfit for work. Even that gets abused all the time.
Ironically, you need capitalism to generate enough profit that these programs are viable.
The rest of socialism/communism is pure, unadultered cancer, and I propose we take its proponents on helicopter rides.

I like to think of it as how a society deals with the issues of undesirables.
The perfect society has no undesirables nor does it have any mechanisms that can lead to there being undesirables.
Imperfect societies have undesirables, and they have various mechanisms that lead to there being undesirables.
Right wing societies tend to dehumanise undesirables and try to remove them by expulsion. However their polices tend towards mechanisms that recategorise groups of their populations as undesirables (e.g. immigrants, the poor, the sick, criminals, etc.).
Left wing societies tend to humanise undesirables and try to assimilate them. However their policies tend toward mechanisms that encourage groups of their populations to become undersirables (e.g. the lazy, the poor, the sick, criminals, etc.).
If imperfect societies dealt with the causes of undesirables, then, after a reasonably short period of time, there would be no more undesirables.
Of course, as with most organisations, those in charge will always choose the lowest cost option, which is often just a temporary cure, rather than a permanent prevention.
To create a society without undesirables, you will need uniform preferences in the population because we talking about an arbitrary, subjective characteristic.
It is unlikely a billion clones would have the same opinions of “desirable”

It is all a spectrum of slavery where the conditions for the slave are improved marginally while the conditions for the master are improved exponentially.
