It’s Leif, not Lief
Pretty cruel, I love it!
Lief is the afrikaans word for love so a bit of a dodge for the viking to say
Scalping was first done by the european invaders who paid for each scalp of a native a nice sum of money so people turned to hunting the native americans down because they saw them as vernim…and after a couple of years the indians returned the favour
@Lotsa Green– Sorry, but no. Scalping was happening before Europeans got here. The Crow Creek massacre in the 1300s shows evidence of scalping (Landau and Steele 1996: 209) on about 25% of the nearly 500 people killed.
as the Indians chased them off, they were heard to remark “now make like a tree and Lief!”
Their jokes lacked a certain polish and setup back them.
